Disability campaigner made MBE

Disability campaigner Miro Griffiths has been awarded with an MBE having fought for disability rights since the age of thirteen.  He was one of many recognised in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list, alongside the likes of Stephen Sutton for services to Teenage Cancer Trust and actress Angelina Jolie for campaigning to end sexual violence in war zones.

Now aged 25, Mr Griffiths has been awarded for fighting to improve the lives of disabled people across Britain.  At the age of 13 he was awarded a Lottery grant to develop a computer programme raising awareness for disability issues.  He said: “I believe that exclusion and isolation are very real factors, and it's a very dangerous time to be disabled.”

‘Miro Consultancy’

Mr Griffiths, a wheelchair user himself, was the youngest person to join Equality 2025 – an advisory network for disability equality.  He now runs ‘Miro Consultancy’, an organisation that advises government departments, businesses and charities on how to accommodate those who are disabled, and how to comply with disability policies.  Alongside this, Mr Griffiths is also a key advisor of the British Council’s Disability Advisory Panel.

Other honoured in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list included Patricia Blair (80) who was also involved in the growth of the association for over 43 years.  She is to be made an MBE for services to the National Association of Women’s Clubs for Liverpool and District.
